Scott McLean "Honestly" - Grunge/Musical

    Scott McLean - "Honestly"

This recording was what I was doing about an hour ago (around 1 AM Friday, April 20, 2012)...  and it was much more interesting to do my own Grunge Musical (song) than to continue looking at dating profiles.  Maybe I'll see how frustration of Internet dating (silly stuff alright) can continue to inspire me to new singing heights, or an all-time emotional low.  In another 80 years, this song also could be part of a period piece, directed by Madonna?  Well no, but perhaps the Queen of Pop of 2092. Sorry I can't see that far into the future and of course I won't be around then, so no comment.  Damn, I need a real date! Joking. I need two, three, or a thousand.  And make up for lost time. Just wait til the girls all over this world, and maybe others, know who I am. Well, then they can let me know.  haha

This was going to be released right here on April 20, 2012, but I decided to wait and post this later.  Here it is May 19, 2012 and finally I'm posting this song.  It's still fresh.

Nonexistent Reality "Barely Wait 'til Jelly" - new song

Nonexistent Reality - "Barely Wait 'til Jelly"
     by Scott McLean

I used the word "June" in this song because one of my internet friends can't wait until June.  She is an influence and other influences are Echo & The Bunnymen, Nirvana, Iggy and The Stooges and more bands and singers.

Nonexistent Reality "Tick" (new song - Grunge)

     Nonexistent Reality - "Tick"
     by Scott McLean

This song was created in February 2012 and like many of my songs, before this song I got a basic tune going,  a melody, and some lyrics, but then I came up with much of the lyrics and ideas, song changes, etc. while I was singing.  That long, funny part in the song is the word "tick" stretched out "tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick" (I didn't count how long that was) and hopefully the silly ending reminds us that grunge has a sense of humor.

Scott McLean "Can't Stay" (2011 - new song) released March 27, 2012

Scott McLean - Singer, songwriter
Song title:  "Can't Stay"

This song is not about my current situation, and I don't talk this way.  It's just a song and it's intended as entertainment, not for scrutiny of each word.  That's why I put "vocal styling and singing as acting" in the Labels (below).  I started to release my songs last year on Fast Food Yummy because I didn't have my a website or blog to post my own songs.

It's important to know that many songs by other solo artists and bands are not about the singer or songwriters and the songs also could be written in a variety of ways, during the time of singing or playing guitar, or just some words that sound good together.  But I keep reading comments -- for example, comments below videos of other artists' songs on YouTube -- that listeners think the singer really went through some hard times or something, and my thoughts are maybe, and maybe not.

They could be writing about relationships they have observed or like a character in a novel, movie, or TV show, the song may represent a combination of characteristics of several people.  Some songs are probably about some person that the singer/songwriter knows (or knew) and they don't sing 'he' and 'him' or 'she' and 'her' but instead sing 'I' and 'me'.

So then, someone might say that kind of singing is like acting.  Of course, most of us have past relationships too, and while we may be nothing like the character a song appears to be about, we can use our past experiences to figure out how we want to sing the song in a believable way to make it interesting for listeners.  I hope this makes sense.  While this is a blog, please do not assume that I write songs only about myself unless I say so, because like most songwriters/singers/musicians, I want to be creative and come up with something interesting, maybe somewhat different, and see what happens.

I'm going to share more of my thinking about music and songs, though someone could interview me and maybe I would even answer questions.

Note: This song was originally scheduled to be released on November 15, 2011 but didn't come out on that date, so it's finally being released now.

"Have a lot of Fun" by Scott McLean

So far, these are the lyrics and if the song ever gets finished, then I'll say so. But shouldn't I do it on keyboard? Then of course after I do a nice version I'll do a cover of my own song, but I'll scream in a high-pitched voice, Scott McLean  is my favorite pop star, and put it on YouTube.  Yes, I am just making a joke about pop stars who put their names in songs.  By the way, I'm not any other Scott McLean, I'm this one.  Ok here are the lyrics for my song:

"Have a lot of Fun"
by Scott McLean

Overdo it
no don't do it
wait, wait no, girl
it's a lot of fun
overdo it
and come 'ere on the run
no, wait
don't overdo it
your mama said it's a loaded gun
--and I know what she means!
stay there in your scene

there's something to be said
for places that are dead
whatever you can afford
always makes you bored

don't do it
don't have any fun
then if you wanna be alone
listen to the dial tone
or get me on the line
you're sure to feel jus' fine

to know love
sow love
it's growing
every spring
the summer comes
the heat is warm
but that's what
makes us tall inside

overdo it
have a lot of fun
no, wait
don't overdo it
your mama said
it's a loaded gun
your mama said it,
though, so, you know!

OVERDO IT
have a lot of fun
OVERDO IT
have a lot of fun
repeat 3 million times (i'm joking, just repeat until you're tired of it and wanna listen to the next pop song)

Note: By the way, don't overdo it.  This is just a song and that's all.  I wrote this on paper in a Jack in the Box parking lot after buying iced coffee (before starting to drink it) but the idea came to me while I was still in the drive-thru, which is when I wrote down the song title, and in the drive-thru, I was listening to other pop songs on the radio that also repeat way too much, but that's OK because I was having fun.

Nonexistent Reality/Scott McLean "Soul" - new song (alternative blues rock)

Nonexistent Reality:
Song title:  "Soul" by Scott McLean
Scott McLean - vocals, guitar, songwriter, experimental improv and ideas

My influences for this song include experimental, folk, folk-rock, blues, grunge, proto-grunge. With much respect to these musicians and singers, they include Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Neil Young, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, ZZ Top, Staind, Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam, Nuncyspungen, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Captain Beefheart/Don Van Vliet, U.S. Maple, Al Johnson,  Mick Jagger, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, and many more.

Also, my thinking about (what is) the soul and what inspires me to do a song like this one, radio talk-show guests such as Steve Quayle and Katherine Albrecht, and others.  I like the radio show Coast to Coast AM with George Noory.  My friends and family, ministers, pastors, and the many good people in churches I've attended or visited also influenced my thinking.  The song pushes the limits and is left open to interpretation.  This isn't a religious song but it's just to get people thinking about what the soul is and what are we on the inside and after this life.  This song is NOT a reference to anyone who recently passed away and besides, I created this song and had planned to publish it almost two weeks ago on February 1, 2012 but I am just publishing it here now.

Nonexistent Reality - "Side Salad" new song/Grunge (this recording was done today)

Nonexistent Reality  "Side Salad"
Scott McLean - singer, songwriter

It's basically about a young woman/girl who puts everything and all importance on her physical looks and also a guy who feels unhappy about his life.  The bad grammar in the lyrics is on purpose, and I think it fits well with grunge, especially The Raw Sound which is what I call raw grunge. I named the song "Side Salad" because Mom told me by phone today that I should eat salad instead of fries.

I'm sorry there was a problem and the video was supposed to be blogged on my other blog.  When I working with it under share I thought it was switched over to the other blog but it wasn't and so I corrected it.

Lyrics

I have seen song names or album track names released by bands before the song or album is released. That's great, but I go one step ahead of them.  Here are the lyrics I wrote tonight when I was at a grocery store in the parking lot waiting for it to stop raining and wondering how to walk and avoid some of the puddles.  So then, I'm inspired by puddles and rain.  I don't know when this will be released as a song and I'm not in any hurry put it out. Sometimes I write the lyrics before I come up with a melody, start singing or playing it on acoustic guitar, though I'm writing other songs too, and mostly I just start singing.  But I don't know what the song with these lyrics will sound like.  Maybe it will be a grunge song, but there's no way to know for sure.  However, it does show I can write quickly and just sit down with a pen and paper anywhere and any time of day or night.  This was written between 9:25 pm and 9:42 pm (17 minutes) on Thursday December 29, 2011.

Nonexistent Reality
“Puddle breath”
 by Scott McLean

You wound up in misery
not the seminary
do i stand corrected?
i've got another come back
line every time

much more bland in vision
the department will never
get out of the dog house
for writing him out of history

you should be the focus
of nagging allegations
whenever you open your computer
and don't forget your face for photoshopping

pledge -- lawmaking's on the ledge
issue wedge -- beings take it some more
talk the way your grandma did
the way she felt the day
you were born, 30 years after
the great depression, the way
she felt when she would say
she felt that very day
she was no longer happy n' gay
it was long ago
and still is

you wound up smelling
like a pacific northwest late afternoon
on the greyest overcast bucket full
of pea soup collecting in the backyard
you parked your face
in the supermarket parking lot
lots of times before
never reached the door
puddle breath here's tube of toothpaste
here's your photoshopped imagination
puddle breath in moss and slugs your pledge

to make the life
of yours an issue wedge
so in misery we
may all connect!
puddle breath
the original
the one and only
did living your way
falling into
the falling down
watching the clouds
cry on you to
ease the pain the
afternoon brings
the rain is there for you.

Nonexistent Reality/Scott McLean "Leaves" - new song release

Nonexistent Reality/Scott McLean "Leaves"
Scott McLean - singer, songwriter
The song was written and recorded about two weeks ago. I thought about recording it again and changing some of the lyrics but decided against it because this is my style, it's raw and has some magnificent flaws.

More about the song "Lower"

Some politicians and government officials are doing a good job.  The song "Lower" (below this post) is about those politicians and government officials who are dishonest, tell lies, and try to gain support for wars, for invasion of our privacy, and even to take away our rights and our freedom.    It's also about anyone else who lies frequently and with the goal of being 'higher' than the rest of us.  I'm not saying everyone is telling lots of lies, but far too many people.  I feel it's better not to have much and be able to live with myself.  I'm not perfect but I'm a 'good fit' for Grunge and the raw-sounding songs.

Nonexistent Reality/Scott McLean - "Lower" (new song, Grunge/raw-raw hard rawcapella)

Scott McLean - singer, songwriter, ideas/deep thinking

I just wrote this song about an hour ago.  It's the first recording and I'll probably add to it someday.  Please read the labels.  I use the word 'you' but of course
this song is not about you, the listener, it's about politicians and government officials
and  and others who lie a lot to gain riches, power, and/or fame, and they think they are better than
or 'higher' than most of us but in the end they are 'lower' or maybe that's after the end of this life, when they are lower.  I'm not sure, I'm just thinking on this subject which I find to be quite interesting.
This isn't a religious song about heaven and hell, but maybe it should be, right?  The song is short
and that's like an analogy to the amount of time the liars get to be 'higher' in comparison to
forever or at least when compared with how long the universe has existed.

Nonexistent Reality - "The Nonexistent Reality" (original song/improv, new)

Nonexistent Reality:  Scott McLean - vocals, guitar, songwriting, improv ideas/thinking

"The Nonexistent Reality"
1. chaos on mynd borders
2. am i like u
3. race from evil a gag by the unsenatesatives

This song is recorded today Saturday December 3  2011 and I wrote it at the same time so it's an improv song/acoustic guitar instrumental.  I don't care about trying to achieve perfection because my main style is rough  grunge with a country and folk sound to some songs, somewhat prog and medieval sounding at times, and one of my goals is to promote freedom in music.  I hope musicians, singers, songwriters, and writers will stand up for freedom of speech and freedom of expression in music, and some people would say they need to do this in the music business.  At this time, however, I'm not making any money in music or writing. One of my goals is to do something interesting and different than what has already been done.

In case you didn't know this, I like to put two words together for added effect.  It's not a misspelling, it's on purpose. You might also be able to find words in a song title that spell something backwards, but I'll try to keep it to a minimum, which isn't to say that I'll become a minimalist composer, though that would be fun.
